Spotlight: A Real People Person
FALL 2024
Alina Martinez, Director of People Services and Operations for the Diocese of Florida, showed us what it looks like from her side of the desk administering CPG’s benefits for those who serve the Church.
The place where I have spent the last seven years isn’t simply a diocesan office—it’s home for me, and what I do here is truly a calling. Seeing the positive outcomes of my efforts and believing that I’m part of something greater that supports our Christian mission fuels my passion for my work. I feel a deep sense of purpose knowing that what I do directly helps the well-being of our lay employees and clergy and contributes to the overall success of our diocese.
I don’t think there’s a CPG benefit we don’t offer to our employees, ranging from pension benefits, retirement savings plans, health coverage, the Employee Assistance Program, and disability and life insurance. My long-term observation is that CPG is committed to providing solutions that align with our needs.
Supporting Ministry
As a Christian woman and leader, I’m inspired by the ministry aspects of CPG, including the supportive culture it fosters. We are more than clients—we are partners in ministry, Christian love, and unity! Whether it’s clarifying benefit plan details or addressing specific employee concerns, CPG’s teams are always available to assist.
The company’s dedication has helped enhance the stability and well-being of countless individuals and families in our diocese, which strengthens the broader mission of The Episcopal Church and its ministries. In short, we have a shared sense of purpose.
My Admin Portal (MAP)
Many aspects of my role have been simplified because of CPG's MAP portal. I’m able to manage new-employee onboarding, compensation, retirement, and benefits through one updated user interface. The real-time access to critical data, along with much-improved reporting capabilities, supports my decision-making. Overall, MAP is proving to be a valuable tool that has made me more efficient in my job.
CPG's tech team is continuing to refine MAP based on feedback from participants like me. I feel that when we speak, CPG listens. I am grateful to CPG for designing products and services based on requests from our community!
Centralizing Services
My position enables me to address the growing needs of the diocese and its ministries, with a focus on centralized shared services. The diocesan office handles human resources and benefits administration, compensation and payroll, church operations and Church relations, and other people-related services, such as immigration support.
Because these functions converge on my office, I can say that employees express a strong sense of security and satisfaction with their CPG benefits. They recognize the value and support that CPG brings to their financial and personal well-being. And they appreciate the comprehensive nature of the CPG benefits package, particularly the robust retirement plans and the quality of health insurance coverage.
Confirming Value
There are occasional suggestions for lowering the rates of healthcare coverage. To satisfy all voices, I engaged a broker to shop for other plans outside of The Episcopal Church Medical Trust. I disclosed why I was interested in looking at other plans and said, “If you find something better, I’d like to see it.”
The broker came back to me with this assessment: “You have good plans at good pricing. They’re very rich.” I had the broker put that in writing! As I explain to our constituents, CPG operates as a not-for-profit organization, similar to ours. Its sole mission is to serve The Episcopal Church.
CPG’s valuable training and resources empower me to communicate benefit options to our clergy and lay employees. I am genuinely encouraged by CPG’s commitment to excellence and what we accomplish together. I look forward to continuing this productive collaboration.
