Church Publishing Author Honored at the White House
Fall 2022
The words—and actions—of Church Publishing author Catherine Meeks, PhD, have reached all the way to the White House. Not only did Dr. Meeks receive The President Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award, but she was also honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award medal.
The announcement praised the founding executive director of the Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing for her “years of dedicated service to this great nation [that have] made a difference in the lives of many. The recommendations…for [the] nomination to receive these presidential honors have overwhelmingly exceeded expectations.”
In her latest book, The Night Is Long but Light Comes in the Morning: Meditations for Racial Healing, with a foreword by Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry, Dr. Meeks offers a spiritual guide to restoration after racial trauma and finding manageable ways of committing to the arduous work of dismantling racism. She is also the co-author of Passionate for Justice: Ida B. Wells as Prophet for Our Time, with a foreword by Stacey Abrams.
